September 28 (SeeNews) - Romania's Rompetrol Rafinare [BSE:RRC], a member of KazMunayGas International Group (KMGI Group), said on Tuesday that repair works at the Navodari refinery are almost completed following an explosion that occurred in July, and installations are expected to reach optimal capacity at the end of October.
The diesel hydrotreater unit, where the explosion occurred, has been technologically isolated, and its reconstruction and restart are expected to take place during 2022, the company said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB.
Rompetrol has completed most of the turnaround of the production units on the Petromidia platform and performs the last technical checks in order to restart the production activity in conditions of maximum safety. The technological installations will be restarted in stages and are expected to reach, by the end of October, the optimal operating efficiencies.
The operation of the installations within the Petromidia refinery were interrupted as a result of an explosion that occurred on July 2 in the diesel hydrotreater unit, killing three workers.
Rompetrol Rafinare is the core asset of Dutch-based KMG International, formerly The Rompetrol Group, which is fully owned by Kazakhstan's state-owned energy company KazMunaiGaz Group. Through its two oil refineries, Rompetrol Rafinare provides over 40% of Romania's refining capacity and is the only producer of polymers in the country.
Rompetrol Rafinare's shares traded 2.13% higher at 0.0480 lei ($0.01/0.01 euro) as at 0918 CET on Tuesday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
