January 27 (SeeNews) - Qatar Airways said it is starting 2016 with an expansion programme across Eastern Europe by introducing new direct flights from Doha’s Hamad International Airport to Belgrade and increasing the frequency of flights to Zagreb and Budapest to 10 per week.
The air carrier is launching on March 16 direct flights from Doha to Serbia's capital, a destination it currently serves via Sofia, enhancing the journey time to and from Belgrade on the four-weekly schedule, Qatar said in a statement on Monday.
Flights to Zagreb and Budapest are increasing to a 10-weekly service from a current daily service from April 3 and July 3, respectively, while flights to Baku are increasing to an 11-weekly service, also from a current daily scheduled flight, from March 27, the company noted.
The air carrier's expansion into Eastern Europe adds an increased level of choice for passengers travelling between Croatia, Hungary and Azerbaijan and anywhere in Qatar Airways' extensive global network, it added.
“Qatar Airways is expanding rapidly, not only in terms of new places and our network offering, but also with the service we offer. Complementing our service in the skies are our transfer facilities at the state-of-the-art Hamad International Airport, coupled with the experience of flying on board one of the youngest fleets in the industry,” Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker is quoted in the release as saying.
Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar, has seen rapid growth in just 19 years of operation - it now flies a fleet of 175 aircraft to more than 150 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America.
