BUCHAREST (Romania), February 21 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania said on Thursday its revenues rose 5% year-on-year in 2018, reaching 1.125 billion euro ($1.28 billion), driven by growth of fixed-mobile services and higher mobile data consumption.

Mobile Internet traffic surged by 70% in 2018, sustained by constant investment in network expansion and service quality maintenance, Orange Romania, a unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said in an interim financial report.

The operator's 4G network covers 96.9% of Romania's population.

"In 2019, we remain committed to continuing to innovate and invest in infrastructure, in the development of the economy - by supporting the growth efforts of startups and large companies alike and of generations through digital education programmes," Orange Romania CEO, Liudmila Climoc, said in a statement on Thursday.

Orange Romania had 10.763 million customers at the end of December, up 1.3% on the year.

In the fourth quarter alone, Orange Romania revenues increased by an annual 1.8% to 292 million euro.

Romania’s market of just over 20 million people is served by five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, former Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and insolvent 2K Telecom.
