July 26 (SeeNews) - Orange Romania, the local unit of France Telecom's Internet and mobile arm Orange, said on Tuesday its revenues rose by an annual 3.3% to 240.5 million euro ($264 million) in the second quarter of 2016, as growth slowed down affected by a decline in mobile service revenue due to decreased prepaid offers and roaming price reductions in Europe.
First-half revenues grew 4.9% on the year to 475.9 million euro, Orange Romania said in a statement.
In the first quarter of the year, the operator recorded a 6.5% rise in revenues to 235.5 million euro, driven by an upturn in mobile service revenue.
Orange Romania had 9.84 million clients at the end of June, down from 10.177 million at the end of 2015, including 1.6 million 4G clients.
Mobile Internet traffic jumped 4 times compared to the same period of last year, as 4G terminals sales grew, Orange Romania said. Smartphone sales in the second quarter were up 32% on the year.
The operator's 4G network covers 96.5% of urban population and 74% of all population.
Romania’s market of just over 20 million is served by five mobile operators - Orange Romania; Telekom Romania, former Cosmote Romania; RCS&RDS; Vodafone Romania; and 2K Telecom.
At a group level, Orange posted revenues of 20 billion euro for the first half, up 0.3% on the year.
