SKOPJE (North Macedonia), June 17 (SeeNews) – Passenger numbers at North Macedonia’s international airports, in Skopje and Ohrid, decreased by 35.3% year-on-year in the first five months of 2021, to to 280,077, Aeroports de Paris (ADP) said.
ADP owns 46% of Turkey’s TAV Airports, the company operating the airports in Skopje and the lakeside city of Ohrid.
In May alone, North Macedonia’s international airports served 75,027 passengers, up by 74,104 passengers compared to May 2020, whereas in the last 12 months through May, passenger traffic slumped by 71.3% to 629,990, ADP said in a statement on Wednesday.
Aircraft movements at the two airports edged down 1% on the year to 4,062 in the January-May period, while in the last 12 months the figure plunged by an annual 50.7% to 8,988. In May alone, aircraft movements at the airports reached 1,120, up by 948 compared to the same month last year.
North Macedonia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on February 26 last year. In mid-March 2020, the government ordered the closure of the two airports to slow the spread of the disease. The airports reopened in July.
