July 21 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia’s government decided to limit the exports of wheat and wheat flour until the end of the year to prevent potential shortages.
Given the economic crisis brought on by the military events in Ukraine and the disruptions in the global wheat market, it is essential to avoid potential future market shortages, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.
In early March, the government limited exports of wheat, barley, corn, alfalfa, wheat flour, sunflower seeds, as well as sunflower oil. In April, it removed import tariffs on sunflower oil by May 31 in a bid to stifle inflation.
The government statement did not specify if wheat and wheat flour exports would be fully banned, or just limited.
