June 2 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova more than doubled on the year in the first quarter of 2022, reaching 56,600, the country's statistical office said.
As much as 53.7% of 36,100 foreign tourists who visited the country during the first quarter arrived from Ukraine,10.1% came from Romania, 4.6% came from the US, while Russian tourists accounted for 4.4%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Tourists booked 205,100 overnights in Moldova during January-March, double on the year. Foreign tourists booked 96,300 overnights, six times higher on the year.
During the first quarter, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 6.3 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.7 days on average.
The number of tourists staying in Moldova doubled in 2021, reaching 178,200.
