December 5 (SeeNews) - Moldova's unemployment rate increased to 3.4% in the third quarter of 2017 from 2.9% in the prior-year period, the country's statistical bureau said on Tuesday.
The number of unemployed in the country of 3.5 million people was 44,600 at the end of September, the statistical bureau said in a statement.
Moldova's workforce decreased 2.1% on the year to 1.308 million people in the third quarter. Unemployment among men in Moldova was 3.7% versus 3.1% among women. The jobless rate was 5.8% in urban areas and 1.4% in rural areas.
In the second quarter of 2017, Moldova's unemployment rate decreased to 3.5% from 4% in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
In 2016, Moldova's unemployment rate fell to 4.2% from 4.9% in the previous year.
