November 9 (SeeNews) - Moldova's electricity consumption remained almost unchanged on the year at 2.37 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in the nine months through September, the country's energy regulator, ANRE, said on Monday.
Moldova's five power distributors bought 2.77 billion kWh of electricity in the first nine months of the year, down by 0.9% on the year, ANRE said in a statement.
ANRE added that power distribution companies cut grid losses by 1.07 percentage points to 12.14% of all electricity supplied in the period.
Moldova's three power plants met around 20% of the country's electricity consumption in 2008. The balance was covered by power imports from Ukraine.
Spanish utility Union Fenosa owns three of Moldova's power distributors, while the other two are state-owned. The country’s three power plants are all state-owned.
