November 10 (SeeNews) - Moldova's annual consumer price inflation quickened to 7.9% in October from 7.6% in September, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Friday.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices rose 1.5% in October, following a 0.9% advance in September, BNS said in a statement.
In October, food prices rose 10.6% on the year, while prices of non-food products increased 4%. Prices of public utility and transport services grew 8.7% year-on-year.
At its last monetary policy meeting held in October, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to lower its key rate at 7% from 7.5%, striving to keep inflation close to its 5.0% target. The bank also decided to decrease the interest rates on overnight loans from 10.5% to 10% annually and on overnight deposits from 4.5% to 4% annually.
The central bank now projects 7.3% inflation in 2017 and 2.6% in 2018.
Moldova's consumer prices rose 6.4% in 2016, after increasing 9.7% in the previous year.
