November 18 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 3.5% on the year in the first nine months of 2019, reaching 300,026 the country's statistical office said on Monday.
As much as 26% of 130,295 foreign tourists who visited the country during January-September, arrived from Romania, 12.3% came from Ukraine, while Russian tourists accounted for 8.5%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 1.3 million overnights in Moldova during the first nine months, down 4.8% on the year. Foreign tourists booked 292,543 overnights, a rise of 18.7% on the year.
During January-September, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 5.3 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.2 days on average.
In 2018, the number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 8.1% on the year to 364,608.
