January 16 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer prices rose by 6.4% in 2016, after advancing by 9.7% a year earlier, official data showed.
In 2016, food prices jumped up by 7.4%, non-food products prices rose by 6.3% and services appreciated by 4.9%, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, last week.
In December alone consumer price inflation decelerated to 2.4% year-on-year in December from 2.6% in November.
Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in December, following a 1.2% advance in November.
In December alone, food prices rose 0.8% on the month and were 2.8% higher on the year.
Prices of non-food products increased by 0.5% on the month and rose 3.2% on the year.
Prices of public utility and transport services were flat on the month and 0.5% higher on the year.
At its last monetary policy meeting held in December, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to keep its key rate at 9.0%, striving to hold inflation rate close to its 5.0% target.
The central bank projects 6.3% inflation for 2016 and 4.6% for 2017.
