December 23 (SeeNews) - The after-tax profit of Moldovan banks jumped to 3.55 billion lei ($184 million/173 million euro) in the first eleven months of 2022 compared to 2.14 billion lei in the same period of 2021, the central bank, BNM, said.
Eleven commercial banks operated in the country of 2.6 million people as at end-November 2022, BNM said in a data release on Thursday.
The top five banks generated almost 90% of the total profit of Moldova's banking sector in the period under review.
Total revenues from interests more than doubled to 8.53 billion lei at end-November 2022, compared to 4.6 billion lei at end November 2021.
Provisions' value rose to 330 million lei at the end of last month, from 199 million lei at the end of November 2021.
Moldovan banks' total assets increased to 129 billion lei at the end of November 2022 from 115 billion lei at end-November 2021, according to BNM data.
Moldova Agroindbank was the largest bank at end-November, with total assets of 41.73 billion lei, followed by Moldindconbank with 25 billion lei, OTP Bank with 19 billion lei, Victoriabank with 18 billion lei and by ProCredit Bank with 6.1 billion lei worth of assets.
On December 14, shareholders of Moldova Agroindbank have approved the listing of its shares on the stock exchange in Bucharest, Romania.
