October 30 (SeeNews) - Private equity firm MidEuropa said on Monday it has agreed to sell Romanian retailer Profi Rom Food for about 1.3 billion euro ($1.37 billion) to Belgian-Dutch food retailer Ahold Delhaize.
The transaction is now subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close in 2024, MidEuropa said in a press release.

The deal is the largest grocery deal ever in continental Europe involving private equity and the largest ever grocery deal in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), MidEuropa said.
Profi is the largest supermarket chain in Romania, operating more than 1,650 stores, and employs over 28,000 people. The company generated revenues of 2.5 billion euro during June 2022 and June 2023.
Profi was acquired by MidEuropa in 2017.
Ahold Delhaize operates 969 stores in Romania under the Mega Image brand.
