February 1 (SeeNews) - Slovenian retailer Mercator, a member of Croatian ailing food-to-retail concern Agrokor, has closed down a store in Bosnia's Banja Luka just months after formally returning to the market.
A notice posted on the Mercator store in Banja Luka reads, "Dear customers, we are informing you that the Mercator store in Nova Varos will cease operations on 1.2.2018."
Mercator has not issued a statement on the closure.
In December, Mercator said it plans revenue growth on the market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after it resumed retail operations in the country in 83 stores in September.
In 2014, following the takeover of Mercator by Agrokor, Konzum was put in charge of retail operations in Croatia and in Bosnia. Mercator's fast-moving consumer goods stores in Croatia and Bosnia were leased out at arm's length principle to Konzum.
Last year, in a bid to salvage Agrokor's retail operations in Bosnia, it was announced Mercator would return to the market with 83 stores, while Konzum's presence would be reduced to 176.
