May 8 (SeeNews) - US security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin said on Monday it has signed a contract with Romanian Air Force (RoAF) to deliver a training system for F-16 Falcon Fighters in 2019.
Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver the SciosTrain(TM) suite of simulators in 2019, also providing contractor logistics support services. The technology can be networked together to enable multiple pilots to train together on advanced scenarios, the company said in a press release.
"Our solution builds on our proven training system with hardware and software tailored for Romania's F-16 fleet," vice president of Lockheed Martin's Training and Simulation Solutions, Sandy Samuel said.
The family of systems training system includes a comprehensive suite of full mission trainers and combat tactics trainers that can be networked together, aligning technologies to deliver advanced training while meeting affordability goals, the company said.
In 2016, Romania received nine F-16 fighter jets from Portugal as part of a programme that aims to replace the country's Soviet-era Russian-made MiGs with combat aircraft that comply with NATO standards. The country will get three more by September 2017, taking the total number of F-16 bought from Portugal to 12.
Also last year, Lockheed Martin provided Romania with two new radars under an existing contract. Romania and Lockheed Martin have a partnership that dates to 1995 and that includes more than two dozen ground-based radars.
Headquartered in Maryland, USA, Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 97,000 people worldwide and is engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
