January 24 (SeeNews) - The Ljubljana Airport expects to recover from the slump in passenger traffic caused by the coronavirus crisis no earlier than in 2026, local media reported.
"We expect the number of passengers to return to 2019 levels in 2026 or 2027," private TV channel N1 Slovenia quoted last week the head of airline management at Fraport Slovenia, Janez Krasnja, as saying.
The insolvency of Adria Airways at the end of 2019 also had a negative impact on the performance of Ljubljana airport, Krasnja noted.
"We were unable to make up for the shortfall in traffic caused by the demise of Adria Airways to the amount we planned due to the pandemic," he said.
Passenger traffic at Slovenia's Ljubljana airport increased 46% to 421,934 in 2021, but remained far below the 1,721,355 passengers recorded in 2019, according to figures published on the website of Germany's Fraport Group.
Last week, Fraport Slovenia said it expects air carriers to resume flights to Paris, Helsinki, Munich, Madrid, Kiev and Tel Aviv this year.
