PRISTINA (Kosovo), December 27 (SeeNews) – Kosovo's trade deficit increased 4.2% year-on-year in November, reaching 240.2 million euro ($273.5 million), the country's statistical office said.
Exports rose by 15.4% to 34.7 million euro in November, while imports grew by 5.5% to 274.9 million euro, the statistical office said in a monthly economic report earlier this week.
Kosovo's main export destinations in November were Albania, India, Macedonia and Germany. Base metals, mineral products, plastic products, as well as foodstuffs and beverages and tobacco were Kosovo's main export items.
Mineral products, machinery, appliances and electric material and foodstuffs and beverages and tobacco made up the bulk of Kosovo's imports in November. Most of the imports originated in Turkey, Germany, China and Albania.
In October, most of Kosovo's imports originated in Serbia.
Last month, the government in Pristina increased import tariffs on goods produced in Serbia and Bosnia to 100% from 10% set earlier in November, saying the move aimed to protect Kosovo’s sovereignty and interests. The increased import tax will not apply to products of international brands made in Serbia and Bosnia.
