September 28 (SeeNews) - The insurance companies operating in Kosovo reported a combined gross premium income of 33.1 million euro ($48.5 million) for the first half of 2009, up 19.9% year-on-year, Kosovo’s central bank said on Monday.
A total of 223,600 insurance policies were sold through June, up from 208,600 a year earlier.
Nine insurance companies operate in Kosovo: the local branches of Albanian privately-held INSIG, Sigal and Sigma, together with Pristina-based Dardania, Dukagjini, Kosova e Re, Siguria, Sigkos and Sigurimi.
The gross premium income of insurers in Kosovo rose by 11% to 56.4 million euro in 2008.
