March 7 (SeeNews) - German state-owned development bank KfW will provide an additional 3.5 million euro ($3.81 million euro) grant to help Albania reconstruct schools damaged by the 2019 earthquake, the Albanian government said.
The grant supports a reconstruction project that is being carried out by the Albanian development fund, FSHZH, the government said in a decisions notice on Wednesday.
The initial agreement, signed in 2020, envisioned a 11 million euro grant, documents published earlier by the Albanian government show.
The additional agreement includes support for the provision of engineering services needed during reconstruction, infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku said in a social media video on Wednesday.
The magnitude 6.5 earthquake in November 2019 killed 51 people and injured around 3,000, while also leaving the government in urgent need of reconstruction funds.
