October 29 (SeeNews) - Hrvatski Telekom (HT) [ZSE:HT] said on Thursday it became the first operator in Croatia to launch commercial 5G network services.
At present, the 5G network is available in areas of the capital Zagreb, the costal cities of Rijeka and Split, the eastern city of Osijek, and the towns of Samobor and Sveta Nedelja located in the Zagreb county, HT said in a statement.
"With the 5G network, we will enable a number of innovations that will allow for the development of the Croatian economy and society," HT's CEO, Kostas Nebis, said in the statement.
The telecom began to implement and test its 5G network in March 2019. The network is based on Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology, whose application enables the current use of existing frequencies for 5G, it said.
In addition, the DSS technology allows for the fast implementation of the 5G network and reduces the need for new base stations and locations on specific 5G frequencies.
"The application of 5G technology will enable further development of existing, but also completely new digital services, such as networked sensors and artificial intelligence in the context of "smart and green solutions" in manufacturing, agriculture, health sector and the public administration," the company's CTIO, Boris Drilo, said in the statement.
HT's shares traded down 0.58% at 171 kuna ($26.4/22.6 euro) by 13:18 CET on Thursday on the Zagreb bourse.
