July 5 (SeeNews) - German manufacturer MTU Aero Engines has started the construction of an engine repair facility in Nova Pazova, in northern Serbia, the Serbian president's office said on Monday.
The construction works will be carried out by MTU Maintenance Serbia, a fully-owned subsidiary of MTU, the office of Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic, who attended the ground-breaking ceremony, said in a statement.
In June 2019, MTU said it had chosen Nova Pazova as the location of its new engine repair facility. In the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the company notified the Serbian government that it expects to launch the plant at least six months later than the initially planned date, which was set for mid-2022.
MTU signed in November 2020 an exclusive V2500 engine maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) contract with flag carrier Air Serbia. The six-year agreement covers MRO, engine trend monitoring and spare engine services for Air Serbia’s v-powered A319 and A320 aircraft fleet.
