BELGRADE (Serbia), May 29 (SeeNews) – The number of foreign tourists who visited Serbia in the first four months of 2020 plunged 41.6% on the year to 237,541, statistical office data showed.
The number of overnights spent by foreign tourists in Serbia slumped by 32.9% year-on-year, to 651,673 in January-April.
In April alone, only 1,052 tourists visited Serbia, down 99.2% on the year.
Bulgaria was Serbia's biggest feeder market in the first four months of 2020, with 19,951 tourists, down 38.5% on the year. Bosnian citizens followed, down 41.1% to 19,454. Visitors from Croatia came third, down 32.7% to 18,739.
The number of domestic tourists decreased by 35.1% on the year to 325,103 in the first four months of 2020, taking the total number of tourists to 562,644, down 38.0%.
The Serbian government introduced on March 15 a state of emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak and closed its borders to all foreigners not living in the country. On March 17, a night curfew for all citizens was introduced as a protection measure.
