September 29 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria increased by 23.4% year-on-year in August, reaching 1.9 million, of which 37.3% were transit trips, the statistical office said on Thursday.
Visitors from fellow EU member states were 1.08 million, representing 57% of the total number of foreign visits to Bulgaria, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report.
Among EU member states, Romania and Germany were Bulgaria's biggest feeder markets, with 300,593 and 232,046 visits, respectively.
Visits of nationals of other European countries reached 635,726, or 33.5% of total. The highest number of visits, or 267,234, were from Turkey.
Holiday trips and business trips accounted for 49.5% and 6.2% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively.
