February 6 (SeeNews) - The European Union will provide 12 million euro ($12.9 million) for lab renovations in Serbia to improve the readiness of the health system to effectively respond to potential public health threats, Serbia’s government said.
The funds will be used for the renovation and modernisation of three reference laboratories in Belgrade, Niš, and Kragujevac, as well as for further digitalisation and the introduction of artificial intelligence to enhance their work, minister for European integration Tanja Miscevic said on Monday.
The initiative is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in partnership with the health ministry.
The EU has supported Serbia's healthcare with 570 million euro over 20 years, the Serbian government said.
