February 6 (SeeNews) - The European Investment Bank (EIB) plans to provide 100 million euro ($113.9 million) financing to Serbia for the construction of part of the Nis-Merdare motorway, the government said.
The EIB financing will be used for the construction of the first section of the Nis-Merdare motorway in southern Serbia, from Nis to Plocnik, the government said in a statement on Tuesday after a meeting of finance minister Sinisa Mali with the head of the EIB division for Slovenia, Croatia and the Western Balkans, Matteo Rivellini.
The 77 km Nis-Merdare motorway is part of a road link extending to Albania's capital Tirana and further on to the country's Adriatic port of Durres.
Moreover, the EIB intends to provide a 40 million euro to Serbia to finance the reconstruction of infrastructure in areas on the migrant route through Serbia.
The total value of the signed and ratified agreements of Serbia with the EIB since 2001 amounts to 3.2 billion euro, the government added.
