June 1 (SeeNews) - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will grant 2.5 million euro ($2.7 million) to Kosovo to develop sewerage infrastructure in the southeastern city of Gjilan, the finance ministry said on Thursday.
Of the total, 1 million euro will be spent to expand the sewerage network and the remainder will go to build a wastewater treatment facility, the ministry said in a statement.
The project for the Gjilan waste water treatment plant has a total value of nearly 23.5 million euro, for which financing has already been secured, the ministry added. Its implementation is in the preparatory phase, as field works are expected to begin by the end of the year.
In 2019, the EBRD said it is lending a 10 million euro to Kosovo’s state-owned utility Regional Water Company Hidromorava to finance the project. The European Investment Bank will co-finance the project with a sovereign loan of up to 10 million euro, the EBRD said at the time, adding that an EU grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) will support the preparation and implementation of the project.
