CHISINAU (Moldova), Decemebr 1 (SeeNews) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invited interested companies to participate in a prequalification procedure for the procurement of airside works at the Chisinau airport, Moldova's sole international airport.
The works will be provided as part of an upgrade project financed by the lender, the EBRD said in a statement on Monday.
The deadline for submitting of prequalification documents is 0800 GMT on January 15, 2010.
EBRD has lent 25.5 million euro ($38.4 million) to the Chisinau airport to finance its upgrade. The total cost of the upgrade is 46 million euro.
The airport intends prequalifying firms and joint ventures to tender for the following airside works to be funded from part of the proceeds of the loan: civil works for rehabilitation of runway, taxiways and aprons, construction works for new airfield lightning, rehabilitation of parts of the airside drainage system and of rainwater treatment plant and modernisation of power supply, the statement said.
"Prequalification and tendering for contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank is open to firms and joint ventures of firms from any country," EBRD said.
The Chisinau airport handled 442,000 passengers through July, down by 5.8% on the year, the latest data from the country's Civil Aviation Department showed.
