PRISTINA (Kosovo), November 24 (SeeNews) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Friday it has completed a successful joint capacity-building programme with Kosovo's telecommunications regulator aimed at strengthening the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in the country.
European experts invited by the EBRD led training sessions at Kosovo's Regulatory Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications (ARKEP) headquarters in Pristina, advising them on specific challenges facing the sector, the EBRD said in a press release.
"Building a knowledge-based economy is clearly the way forward. For this we need innovation and investment, but also a strong regulatory environment,” Kreshnik Gashi, chairman of ARKEP, said in the release.
The programme ran from September to November 2017 and provided training and support to adapt to regulatory developments in the dynamic and growing sector of telecommunications, Internet and broadband networks and services.
Paul Moffatt, Senior Counsel, EBRD, commented that the further development of the policy, legal and regulatory frameworks for ICT is a "means of attracting the necessary investment and enabling growth in the ICT sector, a vital part of Kosovo’s economic development.”
