February 21 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Rijeka city has signed a financing agreement for the construction of 37.3 million kuna ($5.4 million/5.0 million euro) waste sorting plant, the environment ministry said.
The financing contract was signed by officials from the city of Rijeka, the environment ministry and the country's Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
Out of the total financing, some 31.3 million kuna is provided by EU grants, while the remaining 6.0 million kuna will come from the city of Rijeka and its neighbouring towns (Kastav, Kraljevica and Bakar) and municipalities (Viskovo, Klana, Cavle, Jelenje and Kostrena).
The waste sorting facility will be built on an area of 5,636 sq m in the Mihaceva Draga recycling yard. It should be completed by the end of 2021, the ministry said.
Its technological process will include collecting, drying, sorting, baling, technological separation of the unused material and recycling of waste, with the plant being able to separate plastic, cardboard, paper, PET packaging, MET packaging, textile, glass and metal.
