January 28 (SeeNews) - Croatian building materials producer Nexe Grupa is interested in acquiring the local unit of Mexico's Cemex, which is still for sale following HeidelbergCement's unsuccessful attempt to buy it several years ago, Croatian media reported.
Nexe's representatives visited the headquarters of Cemex Croatia in Kastel Sucurac, near the coastal city of Split, in the past days in order to carry out due diligence of the company's business, news daily Slobodna Dalmacija reported last week, citing unofficial information.

When approached by the daily, Nexe's officials said they were unable to comment on the information at that point in time.
In 2015, Cemex signed an agreement to sell its unit in Croatia, which also includes assets in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia, to Hungarian peer Duna-Drava Cement, part of HeidelbergCement Group, for 231 million euro ($254 million).
Cemex Croatia's assets comprise three cement plants, two aggregate quarries and seven ready-mix plants.
However, in April 2017 the European Commission prohibited the proposed takeover of Cemex Croatia by HeidelbergCement, citing concerns that it would have significantly reduced competition in grey cement markets and increased prices in Croatia.
