September 16 (SeeNews) - The Croatian government said on Thursday that it would sign a memorandum of understanding with US-based Amazon Web Services, a unit of IT giant Amazon, aimed primarily at development of cloud computing in the country's public sector.
The memorandum concerns the cooperation between the government and AWS to launch several educational and certification programmes related to cloud technology, to support the efforts of the Croatian government in digital transformation of the society and the development of Croatia's cloud politics, the government said in a statement.
AWS is providing on-demand cloud commuting platforms and application programming interfaces.
“We expect cooperation in the field of innovations to provide for stronger economic development. We are particularly happy that AWS is opening in Zagreb a new centre to design database centres, the second of this kind in the whole EMEA region,” Croatian prime minister Andrej Plenkovic said in the statement.
Amazon recently announced the opening of an office with 15 specialists in cloud infrastructure maintenance and management in Croatia, according to local media reports.
