June 7 (SeeNews) - Croatia's government said on Thursday it decided to increase the quota for seasonal employment of foreign nationals to 35,500 in 2018.
Under the decision, the government will increase the number of employment permits for foreigners in tourism and catering services from 4,660 to 8,660, in order to meet the needs of local employers during the busy summer season, it said in a statement following its weekly session.
"We want to avoid the situation of having too few workers in the hospitality industry during a successful tourism season," prime minister Andrej Plenkovic said.
The government also increased the number of permits for foreign employees for seasonal work of up to 90 days in the fruit picking sector from 500 to 1000.
Croatia saw a record 18.5 million tourist arrivals in 2017, up 13% on the year. This year, the country expects 20 million arrivals.
