November 13 (SeeNews) - China's Shandong Hi-Speed Group (SDHS) is interested in projects for construction of expressways in Serbia linking Zrenjanin to Belgrade and Novi Sad, the Serbian infrastructure ministry said.
SDHS is interested in participating in the projects for construction of those expressway sections, as well as in smart transportation projects across Serbia, the infrastructure ministry quoted the deputy chairman of the company, Meng Yang, as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
"SDHS is always welcome to Serbia. Bearing in mind the excellent cooperation we have achieved in the construction of the Milos Veliki motorway, we wish to continue our joint work on new road construction projects from Belgrade to Zrenjanin and from Zrenjanin to Novi Sad," infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said during a meeting with Yang.
Estimated investment in the construction of the 56 km-long Belgrade-Zrenjanin expressway will total 280 million euro ($308 million), while the 50 km-long Zrenjanin-Novi Sad expresswaya will require investment of 250 million euro, Serbia's president Aleksandar Vucic said in February.
Zrenjanin is located in Serbia's northern autonomous province of Vojvodina, near the railway line linking Belgrade to Hungary's Budapest. The Serbian government is also carrying out a major overhaul of the railway line with Chinese funding, in order to enable high-speed circulation of trains along the route.
