August 18 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria harvested 3.28 tonnes of wheat per hectare this summer, sharply down from last year’s record high yield of 4.4 tonnes per hectare, the Agriculture Ministry said.
Bulgaria has harvested 99.58% of the 1.109 million hectares under wheat so far this year, the ministry said in a statement late on Monday. Last year Bulgaria harvested wheat from 1.03 million hectares sown.

Winter barley, which is 100% harvested, yielded 3.38 tonnes per hectare this year, the statement said. Bulgaria sowed 236,184 hectares of winter barley and the total output is 797,692 tonnes.
Bulgaria's barley production in 2008 totalled 901,700 tonnes, more than double compared to 2007.
Bulgaria exported 1.68 million tonnes of wheat last year, including some 551,000 tonnes sold to other European Union member states.
