February 18 (SeeNews) - In a first-reading vote, the Bulgarian parliament adopted an amendment of the defence and armed forces act, allowing the armed forces to participate in border protection, local media reported.
The revisions broaden the scope of activities in which the armed forces will be able to contribute to the protection of the national border, state-owned news agency BTA reported.
The revisions were proposed by the major ruling coalition partner GERB due to heightened migration pressure.
Elsewhere in Southeast Europe, Slovenian government said on Wednesday it has approved the text of the draft decision on exercising powers of the Slovenian armed forces in wider protection of the state border and referred it to the National Assembly.
