January 3 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's public gas supplier Bulgargaz signed a 13-year agreement with its peer Botas, giving it access to the Turkish company's natural gas network and five liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, the Bulgarian energy ministry said.
The deal will allow for the flow of 1.5 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas per year between the two countries for the agreed period, the energy ministry said in a press statement.
The agreement will allow Bulgaria to purchase gas from all global producers, energy minister Rosen Hristov was quoted as saying.
Bulgaria has been actively seeking ways to diversify its sources of natural gas after its long-standing supplier, Russian company Gazprom, stopped deliveries in late April.
In late September Bulgaria and Greece launched a gas link with a capacity of 3 bcm per year, which connects to the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) bringing gas from Azerbaijan.
