October 19 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's government said on Wednesday it approved additional funding of 20 million levs ($11.23 million/10.22 million euro) for the ongoing construction of a razor wire fence along the border with Turkey, a project that aims to curb migrant influx.
"The facility is of crucial importance for countering the migration pressure at the Bulgarian-Turkish border, which has been constantly increasing in recent years, and seeks to protect the state border and control the refugee wave", the government said in a statement.
The funds will be provided to the regional administrations in Burgas, Haskovo and Yambol.
The new spending comes on top of a 44 million lev additional funding for the construction of 61 km of wire fence approved by the cabinet in the middle of June.
