July 5 (SeeNews) - The biggest wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Macedonia, which will service 95,000 people in the city of Prilep, has commenced operations, the government said.
Macedonia will launch tenders for construction of two more WWTPs by the end of the year, the government quoted finance minister Dragan Tevdovski as saying during the inauguration ceremony at the Prilep plant on Tuesday.
The construction of the Prilep plant was partially financed from an EU grant under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
In addition to the new WTTP in Prilep, Macedonia has built three more WWTPs in the past four months, Tevdovski added.
The four completed plants and the two planned ones will together service 20% of the country's population, according to the statement.
Macedonia will invest a total of 120 million euro ($140.2 million) in projects for improving the environment, 85% of which will be grant funds from IPA, Tevdovski announced.
