April 21 (SeeNews) - Albania posted a budget surplus of 8.9 billion leks ($70.8 million/66.1 million euro) in the first quarter of 2017, compared to a surplus of 13.3 billion leks a year earlier, according to data released by the finance ministry.
The drop in surplus was driven by increased current expenditure, the data showed on Thursday. Current expenditure in the first quarter of 2017 totalled 82.7 billion leks, up 9.8% year-on-year.
Total budget revenue grew 4.3% year-on-year to 100.8 billion leks in January-March, whereas total expenditure rose 10.3% to 91.9 billion leks.
Albania recorded a budget deficit of 26.2 billion leks last year, lower than the planned 35.7 billion leks shortfall.
