February 5 (SeeNews) - Albania's competition authority said it has launched an in-depth investigation into suspected restriction of competitoion by the four biggest banks in the country from 2016 until 2018.
The competition authority will examine the deposits, bank loans and transfers of Raiffeisen Bank, Banka Kombetare Tregtare, Credins Bank and Intesa San Paolo Bank, and their policies in respect to commission fees and interest rates on these market segments, it said in a statement on Monday.
Turkish-owned Banka Kombetare Tregtare controls 28.4% of total assets in the Albanian market, Austria-owned Raiffeisen Bank holds 15.1%, Albanian-owned Credins Bank has 12.9% and Italy's Intesa San Paolo controls 11.4%, according to central bank data for the end-September 2018.
