TIRANA (Albania), July 11 (SeeNews) – The net profit of Albania's banking sector rose to 7.98 billion leks ($72.8 million/64.8 million euro) as at the end of May, from 7.62 billion leks a year earlier, the Albanian Association of Banks (AAB) said on Thursday.
The Albanian banking sector's outstanding loan portfolio shrank to 561.0 billion leks, from 586.4 billion leks at the end of May 2018, AAB said in a monthly report, citing data of the country's central bank.
The ratio of problem loans to total loans dropped to 11.37% from 13.3%.
Deposits in Albanian banks slightly increased to 1,146 billion leks at the end of May from 1,140 billion leks a year earlier.
The total assets of Albania’s banking system increased to 1,420 billion leks from 1,419 billion leks.
Return on assets (ROA) fell to 1.38 billion leks from 1.40 billion leks. Return on equity rose, to 13.03 billion leks from 12.4 billion leks.
The figures comprise the financial results of 14 Albanian banks, as compared to 16 in 2018. The largest by assets among them are Banka Kombetare Tregtare (BKT) and Raiffeisen Bank Albania.
