May 26 (SeeNews) - Prime minister Edi Rama has said that Albania will reopen its land borders on June 1 following their closing in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, local media reported.
Hotel beaches will also be opened starting June 1 and all other beaches will open on June 10 as the country launches its summer tourism season, Albanian Daily News quoted Rama as saying on Sunday.
Albania also plans to lift the remaining coronavirus restrictions in Tirana and other red-alert areas starting June 1, although citizens will still be banned from using vehicles during weekends, Rama added.
The country confirmed its first two coronavirus cases in early March. Later that month, Albania closed its land borders and suspended all commercial flights in an effort to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
The number of confirmed cases has reached 1,004 as of Monday.
