February 22 (SeeNews) - Albania's annual EU-harmonised consumer price inflation was 4% in January, the statistical office, INSTAT, announced on Wednesday.
Inflation was fuelled mainly by a 8.5% rise in the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which have the largest weight of 38.02% in the consumer basket, INSTAT said in a statement, marking the launch of inflation measurement through the HICP.
Compared to December 2016, Albania's HICP rose 2.5%.
Albania's non-HICP added 2.8% on the year and rose 1.5% on the month, INSTAT reported earlier this month.
The HICP measures consumer price inflation in the euro area. It is compiled according to a methodology that has been harmonised across EU countries to ensure that the data for one country can be compared with the data for another. Albania was granted EU candidate status in June 2014.
According to INSTAT's calendar, the statistical office will publish both indices monthly, in separate reports.
