January 19 (SeeNews) - Albanian ministry of agriculture has banned imports of pigs and chicken from trading partner countries with cases of swine fever and bird flu, local media reported on Friday.
Imports of pigs from Kosovo, Italy, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, Estonia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, North Macedonia, have been indefinitely banned due to the widespread occurrence of African swine fever (ASF) in these regions, local news provider Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) said.
Imports of chicken livestock from Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Bulgaria, Moldova, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, Spain and Portugal have also been banned indefinitely due to the spread of highly-contagious avian influenza.
The prohibition of imports will be rescinded once the countries are removed from the relevant lists maintained by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
