December 19 (SeeNews) - Flag carrier Air Serbia plans to wet-lease an Etihad Airways-branded Airbus A330 aircraft, to be used for the operation of flights between Belgrade and New York from January 12 to February 14, the Serbian company said.
During this period, Air Serbia's A330 aircraft operating the route will be undergoing a scheduled maintenance check by Etihad Airways Engineering in Abu Dhabi ahead of the busy summer season, the Serbian flag carrier said in a statement last week.
In 2013, Etihad Airways signed a deal to acquire 49% of then state-owned Serbia's JAT Airways. Under the strategic partnership contract Etihad was granted a five-year management contract for the airline and rebranded it to Air Serbia in October of the same year. The Serbian government owns the remaining 51%.
Air Serbia has been operating a regular service between Belgrade and New York since June 2016, the first direct flight connection between Serbia and the U.S. in 24 years. The route is serviced five times a week by a 254-seat Airbus A330 wide-body twin-engine jet airliner.
