History

    July 27, 1994 - State-owned universal commercial bank Nova Ljubljanska Banka d.d. (NLB d.d.) is established in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. NLB d.d. is a legal successor of Ljubljanska Banka d.d.

    Jan 12, 1995 - Commercial bank E-Banka d.d., based in Maribor, northeastern Slovenia, merges into NLB d.d.

    September 1995 - NLB d.d. sets up financial services company LB Consulting s.r.o. in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.

    Apr 1, 1996 - The bank acquires commercial bank LB-Posavska Banka d.d., based in Krsko, southeastern Slovenia.

    1997 - NLB d.d. acquires Slovenian commercial banks Koroska Banka d.d., Banka Zasavje d.d. and Banka Domzale d.d.

    Feb 5, 1998 - The bank and other Slovenian banks establish ATM operator Bankart d.o.o. in Ljubljana.

    1998 - NLB d.d. acquires a 59.88% in Banka Velenje d.d., northeastern Slovenia and indirectly a 50.05% in Pomurska Banka d.d., Murska Sobota, northeastern Slovenia.

    Dec 19, 2000 - The bank and insurance company Zavarovalnica Triglav d.d., based in Ljubljana, establish pension insurance company Skupna Pokojninska Druzba d.d. in Ljubljana.

    December 2000 - NLB d.d. and its Germany-based subsidiary LHB Internationale Handelsbank AG buy a joint 52% in commercial bank Tutunska Banka AD, based in Skopje, the capital of N.Macedonia, for USD 9.2 mln through the stock exchange. The banks commit to pour another USD 6.6 mln in Tutunska Banka AD in the form of a capital increase.

    2000 - The bank acquires a majority stake in commercial bank Commercebank d.d., based in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through its subsidiary Banka Domzale d.d.

    Oct 1, 2001 - Banka Velenje d.d., Pomurska Banka d.d. and local Dolenjska Banka d.d. merge into NLB d.d.

    May 2002 - Slovenian government sells a 34% stake in NLB d.d. to Belgian insurance and banking group KBC Group NV for EUR 435 mln.

    July 2002 - Slovenian government sells a 5.0% stake in NLB d.d. to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for EUR 64 mln.

    Nov 11, 2002 - Commercial bank Banka West-East AD is established in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. NLB d.d. holds a 25% in the bank through its subsidiary LB Maxima d.o.o. In 2006, NLB d.d. raises its direct and indirect stake in the Bulgarian bank to a total of 97.01% and changes its name to NLB Banka West-East AD.

    May 2003 - NLB d.d. acquires a 91.5% stake in Montenegrobanka AD, based in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, for EUR 11.1 mln in cash and another EUR 11.2 mln as a pledged investment. Montenegrobanka AD is renamed to NLB Montenegrobanka AD.

    June 4, 2003 - The bank and KBC Group NV establish life insurance company NLB Vita d.d. in Ljubljana.

    July 2003 - NLB d.d. acquires, through its subsidiary LHB Internationale Handelsbank AG, a 51% stake in Prva Preduzetnicka Banka AD, based in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Prva Preduzetnicka Banka AD later changes its name to NLB LHB Banka AD.

    Nov 21, 2003 - The bank sets up asset management company NLB Skladi d.o.o. in Ljubljana.

    April 2005 - NLB d.d. acquires Montenegrin commercial bank Euromarket Banka AD.

    May 17, 2005 - The bank and NLB Tutunska Banka AD (formerly known as Tutunska Banka AD) establish pension fund NLB Nov Penzinski Fond in Skopje, the capital of N. Macedonia.

    July 6, 2005 - NLB d.d. acquires a 98.43% stake in commercial bank Continental Banka AD, based in Novi Sad, northern Serbia. NLB d.d. later changes the name of the Serbian bank to NLB Continental Banka AD. In January 2009, NLB d.d. merges NLB Continental Banka AD and NLB LHB Banka AD into NLB Banka AD, Novi Sad.

    September 2005 - The bank buys a 92.3% stake in Bosnian commercial bank Razvojna Banka Jugoistocne Evrope a.d. In April 2006, NLB d.d. merged Razvojna Banka Jugoistocne Evrope a.d. and LHB Banka a.d. (a subsidiary of LHB Internationale Handelsbank AG) into NLB Razvojna Banka a.d., based in Banja Luka, Bosnia's Serb Republic. NLB d.d. acquires a 81% in commercial bank Tuzlanska Banka d.d., based in Tuzla, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    2006 - NLB d.d. merges its Bosnian subsidiary bank CBS Bank d.d. into Tuzlanska Banka d.d. and changes its name to NLB Tuzlanska Banka d.d.

    April 2007 - The bank buys a 50.14% stake and a 77.75% stake in Kosovo-based commercial banks Kasabank Sh.a. and New Bank of Kosovo Sh.a., respectively. In January 2008, NLB d.d. merges the two banks into NLB Pristina Sh.a.

    2008 - NLB d.d. is included in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) system. NLB Koroska Banka d.d., NLB Banka Domzale d.d. and NLB Banka Zasavje d.d. merge into NLB d.d.

    May 2010 - The bank takes over LHB Finance d.o.o.

    December 2012 - KBC Group NV sells its 22% in NLB d.d. to the Slovenian government for EUR 2.77 mln.

    December 2013 - Slovenian government acquires a 100% in NLB d.d.

    2014 - The bank sells its stake in Bosnian company Plan d.o.o.

    2015 - NLB d.d. acquires Montenegrin tourist operator Tara Hotel d.o.o.

    2015 - The bank sells its 100% ownership in Convest d.o.o.

    May 2016 - Slovenian government announces its plans to sell NLB d.d. via initial public offering (IPO).

    June 2017 - Slovenian government refuses to approve the minimum offer price for NLB d.d. shares. The procedure for the sale of the bank via an initial public offering (IPO) is cancelled.

    October 2017 - EU endorses Slovenian government's plan to sell NLB d.d. in two stages by end-2018.

    October 2017 - Slovenian government announces its plan to sell a majority stake in NLB d.d.

    Nov 14, 2018 - The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation acquires a 55.4% majority stake in NLB d.d. from the government of Slovenia.

    May 2020 - NLB d.d. establishes its wholly owned local leasing subsidiary NLB Lease&Go d.o.o.

    June 2020 - Slovenian reinsurer Sava Re buys a 50% stake in NLB Vita d.d. from NLB d.d.

    December 2020 - The bank acquires 83.23% in Serbian Komercijalna Banka AD.

    April 2021 - NLB d.d. increases its stake in Komercijalna Banka AD to 88%.
