October 2 (SeeNews) - Greece registered the second-highest seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the EU in August, at 10.9%, preceded only by Spain with 11.5%, Eurostat said on Monday.
In contrast, Slovenia posted the lowest jobless rate among EU member states in Southeast Europe (SEE) in August, at 3.5%, the EU's statistical office said in a monthly data release.
Croatia was the only other EU member in SEE to record an unemployment rate above the bloc's average of 5.9%, at 6.9%.
All countries in the SEE region but Bulgaria marked annual declines in their jobless rates in August, with Greece marking the biggest one, at 1.4 percentage points. Bulgaria's unemployment rate grew by 0.4 percentage points on the year to 4.5% in the review month.
