July 10 (SeeNews) - VGP, a pan-European owner, manager and developer of logistics and semi-industrial real estate, said on Wednesday it has teamed up with Croatia-based autonomous mobility company Verne, previously known as Project 3 Mobility (P3M), to develop its first production facility for autonomous electric vehicles in Croatia.

VGP is developing a new business park, VGP Park Zagreb, in Lucko near Croatia’s capital Zagreb and within it 28,500 square metres is leased to Verne for its new flagship urban autonomous mobility ecosystem project, VGP said in a press release. It did not disclose the value of the investment.

VGP expects to begin construction work by the end of this summer. The site will be equipped with a rooftop solar installation and EV charging facilities.

All Verne vehicles for all markets will be produced at this facility. Initially, it will produce several hundred vehicles, and later the facility will have the capacity to produce up to 10,000 vehicles per year.

Verne’s service and its ecosystem are based on three key elements: a fully autonomous electric vehicle, along with specialised infrastructure and a mobility service platform, including a user app. The first service of Verne’s robo-taxi will be launched in Zagreb in 2026, followed by UK and Germany.

Verne, which secured investments including from TASARU Mobility Investments - a company fully owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - and South Korean automotive manufacturer Kia, was founded in 2019 by Mate Rimac and two of his colleagues from Rimac Group.

VGP was founded in 1998 as a family-owned Belgian property developer in the Czech Republic and today operates with 368 employees in 17 European countries directly and through several 50:50 joint ventures. In December 2023, the gross asset value of VGP, including the 100% joint ventures, amounted to 7.19 billion euro ($7.8 billion) and the company had a net asset value of 2.3 billion euro. VGP is listed on Euronext Brussels.
