May 19 (SeeNews) - Kosovo developer Solar Energy Group Europe (SEGE) initiated works on a 150 MW agrivoltaic system in the southwestern city of Gjakova, prime minister Albin Kurti said on Friday.
“Exactly one week ago we opened the first solar energy auction for a 100 MW power plant. As a government, we are very much focused on the energy sector,” Kurti said, as seen in a video posted in the social media.
The entire land below the solar array will be utilised as pastures, with the purpose to export livestock products to the markets of Germany and Austria, according to the developer’s website.
The agrivoltaic system is being built on state-owned land under a 28-year leasing agreement.
The power output will be sold abroad by Kosovo’s energy transmission operator KOSTT, the developer has said.
SEGE is subsidiary of the Lebanon-based Rockland Group, a solar energy production investor which operates in 16 countries.
